Set above the sea in Tolo, Argolida, Earthy Cubes is conceived as a complex of staggered holiday houses arranged for unobstructed sea views and privacy. Local stone, wood and white plaster compose a contemporary Aegean palette, while perforated shading screens, planted intermediate roofs and outdoor terraces shape a bioclimatic architecture tuned to the Mediterranean climate.
Earthy Cubes is a contemporary residence project in Tolo, on the Argolic coast, designed as a complex of staggered holiday homes that share a single architectural language while preserving the privacy of each unit. The houses step along the plot in a sequence that follows the gentle slope toward the sea, with each volume slightly rotated so that every level — ground floor, upper floor and rooftop terrace — has an unobstructed view of the Aegean. As a contemporary residence in Greece, Earthy Cubes prioritises sightlines, outdoor living and the quiet integration of architecture with its bioclimatic context.
The bioclimatic architecture strategy is central to the project. Perforated shading screens wrap the south and west facades, cutting summer solar gain while still admitting filtered daylight. Planted intermediate roofs reduce surface temperatures, manage rainwater and reintroduce greenery between built volumes. Cross-ventilation routes run through each home, and open courtyards between buildings create cooler shaded zones that reduce reliance on air conditioning even during August. This is contemporary residential architecture in Greece tuned to its Mediterranean coastal climate.
The material palette — local stone, wood and white plaster — is rooted in the Aegean architectural tradition and gives each house a warm, timeless quality. Large openings, balconies, terraces and gardens extend daily life outdoors. Inside, open-plan layouts maximise daylight and visual continuity. As one of ONUS Architecture Studio’s contemporary residence projects in Greece, Earthy Cubes shows how a holiday-house typology can deliver comfort, privacy and a strong sense of place through bioclimatic design.
