ONUS Architecture Studio is an award-winning Greek architecture practice based in Athens and Thessaloniki, designing high-end residential and hospitality projects across Greece and internationally. Founded by architect engineer Margarita Kyanidou, the studio develops projects where sculptural form, environmental performance and a careful relationship with place are inseparable from architectural intent. Each project begins from site — topography, climate, biodiversity, daily use — and resolves through material clarity, passive strategies and an architectural language shaped by Greek landscape and contemporary practice.
The studio specialises in private residences, hospitality environments and the architectural projects that sit between them. From sculptural Cycladic villas like Horizon House in Syros and Crossed Lines in Tinos, to Tetris Passive Duplex in Glyka Nera and a contemporary timber residence at aTREEum House in Kifisia, the residential portfolio combines refined geometry with passive design. In hospitality, Trine Nests in Evrytania develops a regenerative model of off-grid timber cabins integrated into the landscape. Other projects include Forest House in Thessaloniki, Tri-Edge Residence in Elefsina, and Earthy Cubes in Tolo — each shaped through site, materiality and climate.
At ONUS, sustainability is not an added layer. Passive design, bioclimatic strategies, landscape integration, biodiversity restoration, timber and Cross-Laminated Timber construction, blue-roof and rainwater systems, geothermal exchange and circular-economy material thinking are integrated from the first design decisions. The result is architecture that performs technically and ages well — buildings that reduce operational demand, restore the surfaces they occupy and remain meaningful for the people who use them. This integrated approach is recognised among the studio’s defining strengths in contemporary Greek architecture.
The studio’s work has been recognised internationally at the Architizer A+ Awards (Best Sustainable Residential Project Worldwide), the Architizer A+List of 220 Architectural Studios to Watch Worldwide, the DNA Paris Design Awards, the Exteriors Awards, the GRAIL Awards 2025, and named among the Top 100 Greek Architecture Studios by To Vima newspaper. ONUS has also been featured in the Biennale of Young Architects and in publications including Lifo, NEW EPOCH, AD Greece, NOU POU, Archello and Architizer.
